Davis Family – Fastener Minute or Two…
ISSCO Once Operated Business from Kansas City's Caves
ISSCO INC.'s location history is very different, in the fact that not many companies can say they have operated from a cave! As a Kansas City, family-owned business, ISSCO hasn't always been operating from their current facility in Lee's Summit. Here's a little about the company's background, and shares the story about how they operated from Kansas City's Carefree Industrial Park "Caves."
ISSCO, Inc. was founded by the current CEO Joe L. Davis Jr. in the basement of his Independence home. Joe was in the fastener distribution business for years, but in 1974 he decided to open his own company. ISSCO was established with one goal in mind: efficiently and successfully servicing our customers. We’ve spent years perfecting the distribution of quality fasteners including bolts, nuts, screws, sockets and much more. Our product lines and inventory levels will continue to reflect our commitment to customers throughout the Midwest. 40+ years later and ISSCO continues to build successful customer relationships with that same goal in mind.
Shortly after ISSCO emerged, Joe rented his first warehouse in Blue Springs, Missouri where he hired his first salesman. With business continuing to advance, space was limited and the team moved to the "Caves" in Independence, Missouri in the early 80’s. Known as Kansas City's Premiere Subsurface Business Park, the Caves has over 4,200,000 sq.ft. of developed subsurface, occupied currently by over 40 companies. The Caves offered a unique atmosphere for a business, being underground and fully operative within a cave! Due to horizontal and vertical placement challenges, ISSCO needed more room and expanded in 1986 to the current warehouse in Lee's Summit.
The current footprint and space allows ISSCO to operate most effectively and efficiently to service our customer-base as a fastener distributor and supplier. With the new space and resources, Joe’s two sons Jake and David joined the ISSCO team truly making it a family business. Many of the staff members have been with ISSCO for 30+ years and have helped to develop the company into what it is today. Some of the employees still remember the caves!
